CRADLE GATHERING
A cross cultural celebration of music and dance in The Cradle Of Humankind
Acclaimed composer Arthur Jeffes, leader of the UK ensemble Penguin Café, will perform at Kromdraai Impact Shed in the Cradle of Humankind. This unique event will feature world-class musicians, artists, dancers, and local talent from the Cradle Community.
Founded in 2009, Penguin Café honours Jeffes' late father Simon Jeffes' legacy while showcasing Arthur’s own genre-defying compositions. Arthur’s South African debut will combine virtuoso piano with experimental electronics, bass-heavy beats, and synths.
He'll be joined by The Cradle Crew, local youth involved in The Great Oven initiative, a peace-driven movement blending food, art, and music. Also featured is Cristina Perera, a Brazilian ballet and contemporary dance legend, who will collaborate with local dancers.
Supporting the music are DJs Blanka Mazimela, from South African electronic group Bantwanas, and Illing, a resident DJ at techno institution Toy Toy. Visuals will be curated by Sowetan artist Maverick Seizure, who has mentored the Cradle Crew in photography and the visual arts.
This extraordinary event brings together global and local talent for a night of creativity, culture, and community, is proudly supported by the Gauteng Tourism Authority and celebrates the start of Human Rights Month in South Africa.
